“Dying a thousand times a second, caught between the past, the present and the future”
This beautiful and heartbreaking poem was written by one of our families.
Alaaeddin was a young civil engineer before the genocide began. He has many hopes and dreams including travelling the world, getting married and and living a good life with his family.
Despite this, he is now the sole person responsible for ensuring access to life maintaining resources, such as food, water and shelter for his family. He is now supporting 10 members of his family, including his two nephews and his niece, all whilst living in horrific conditions in a displacement tent, and battling the elements of winter, after over a year of genocidal conflict.
Alaeddin’s poem depicts the every day experiences of people within the Gaza strip and what their daily life under a legally defined genocidal occupation end ethnic cleansing entails.
Dear Alaaeddin, From the team at Ebonies voice, we thank you wholeheartedly for the snapshot into your brilliant mind and open heart. Than you for so eloquently recording your thoughts, feelings and experience and for trusting us enough to share them. I am certain that your experience reflects those of many thousands of civilians within the gaza strip. Please never forget that despite everything that you are going through, you are not alone.
